Happy Anniversary to ME ^_^
This is actually a few days late! This was due on 29/11/13; one year from when I purchased my first DSLR.
I find it somewhat amusing that I’m here now because photography was actually an accidental hobby; I bought the camera for a completely different reason at the time. Little did I know I’d soon be drawn into the alluring world of photography.
I started off with a Canon 600D and about 6 months later upgraded to my Canon 7D because I wanted something more complex that I could grow into. I also sold the kit lens that originally came with the 600D and within that period bought a 50mm f1.8 II, 17-40mm f4 L USM, and 70-200mm f4 L USM (I had to do some serious saving!!).
During this year I’ve also discovered the art (lol) of post-production and fallen in love with Lightroom! I love the fact that I can play around in it to get a certain feel to a picture.
That being said I learnt very quickly it’s important to have a good balance between shooting and post production. You can’t do much in post production if you shot a picture with poor lighting and composition.
Which brings me to the biggest lesson I’ve learnt till date:
Photography is simply the art of composition and light.
Camera gear is worth nothing if the photographer does not understand the essence of these two features.
Anyway it’s been a blast and Im glad I finally found my creative streak (I really was worried I had none!). Looking forward to the next year. I’m sure I’ll have new stories to tell and skills to show.
